Origin and context of the action programme: Mohill Computer Programme was established by Mohill Community Development Association Ltd, a community company set up to combat unemployment and population decline in the area.

Aims and objectives of the action: Aims:
1.To alleviate unemployment through training of long term unemployed individuals and in some cases re-training of individuals who have been made redundent.
2. To provide recognised Microsoft accreditation to marginalised groups such as the long term unemployed, members of the travelling community, lone parents, men, people with disabilities, people with learning difficulties and women, who would otherwise be unable to access the level of training.
3. To provide communications and work environment personal development type skills to those taking part.
Objectives:
1. To gain lucrative employment in the field of Information Technology preferably in the Leitrim area.
2. For those who wish to move on to further or third level education, assist them in doing this.
Titles of main actions of the programme: 1. Computer Training
- Accreditation as follows:
ECDL: European Computer Driving Licence.
MOUS: Microsoft Office User Specialist
MCP: Microsoft Certified Professional
- Personal Development includes:
Communications, Technical Interviews, Cv Preparation, Interview of Introduction.
- Work Placement in an IT related position is also provided for Students.
Target population: Co. Leitrim , Mohill in particular is the main catchment area.
The target group are the long term unemployed, members of the travelling community, lone parents, men and others as mentioned above.
Dates or period of the action programme: Mohill Computer Programme began in 1998, the course itself is of one year duration. The second year commenced in January 2000 and is due to end in December 2000.
Programme description: Mohill Computer Programme is an I.T. programme that is unique to the north west of Ireland and provides an excellent facility to the people of Mohill and Leitrim in general.
All of the training takes place at Mohill Enterprise Centre where there is a dedicated state of the art training suite. There are two trainers training full time on the course, the course co-ordinator who works on the personal development element of the programme and the work placement and the assistant co-ordinator who assist both the co-ordinator and trainers.
Conditions of setting up
and implementation:
The programme commenced in 1998 (December) after funding was obtained from ADM/CPA through the special support programme for peace and reconciliation, support was also gained from FAS the VEC and Co. Leitrim Partnership as well as Microsoft.
Obtained results: At the end of year, 19 of the 20 students who commenced the course graduated, all obtaining a high level of I.T. training. Obviously there were varying levels of exam success as each person reached her/his own level.
